There were a few niggling issues that bothered me, but overall the movie was worthy of at least being watched. Action scenes consisted of the usual Vampire beats up vampire style that you would see in Blade or any other similar type of movie, stunts and action scenes, female vampire to kick ass, you know, the usual vampire related stuff, and there is reference to Lycans aka Warewolves that are more human then....well, warewolf. Oh, and there's the cross between warewolf aka Lycan and vampire which looks like....a deformed mermaid.
Like I said, the movie overall has some cool scenes, but it certainly didn't go down in my books as one of the best.
The story features Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as a vampire fighter who gets torn between the warewolves and the vampires, though her alliance is of course with the vampires, her love for a man she meets who becomes a warewolf overwhelms her and she finds herself fighting against her own kind. The war has been raging on for several years and won't seem to end, so as Selene fights, she oncovers things about herself, her race and the opposing race as well as what the guy she has fallen in love with is turning into.
What ruins the experience is that like Matrix, if you aren't following carefully, you can get thrown off quite easily, the matrix needed Animatrix to explain things properly and so did this movie, characters just throw in parts of history when they so feel like it rather then a fully explained backdrop being given, leaving you all rather lost to be frank, if you CAN keep up, it's a good film, just not superb.
